Well, time to hit the books!
Somnis picks up a book and smacks it. "Haha, I'm funny." Dogachu shakes his head, disagreeing with her. "You're right, I guess it was kind of dumb. Want to help me study?"
"Bark!" Dogachu wags his tail.
Both Somnis and Dogachu study up on some of the math. In fact, Somnis thinks that she's beginning to understand it. At least a little. It makes more sense now. If she can memorize certain formulas, she can solve those problems.
Your Knowledge increases by 1!
Somnis continues to study throughout the morning until it becomes afternoon. She then finishes up and puts her book away. Dogachu is wandering around the house, chewing on a bone. "If I keep up this studying I'll do just fine on the test." Somnis nods, feeling assured.

Might as well go check out what Lisa's doing. She said we could be friends.
Somnis heads over to see Lisa, knocking on her door. "Heyyy, is anyone home?"
The door opens and Lisa is standing there. "Oh, it's you."
"Hey! Let's hang out!"
"You...brought your dog." Dogachu is standing next to Somnis with his tail wagging. "Well. What is it?"
"I said I wanted to hang out."
"Well...alright. Come on in, I guess." Lisa lets Somnis inside.
Going into the house, Somnis looks around. Nothing really out of the ordinary. She heads over into Lisa's room and looks around. She's got a television in here. There's a video game system hooked up to it. She's got a computer too. It looks like there's some sort of music editing software open. Headphones are plugged in. She's got a few books lying on her desk about computers. Some unfinished homework is sitting on it as well as a text book too. A little, plush archer sits on her bed too. It seems familiar somehow. The number 14 is on his bow. Dogachu wanders around the room, sniffing everything.
"This is my room. There, can you leave now? I was busy."
A.) "Sure! See ya!"
B.) "Can we play some games?"
C.) "You make music?"
D.) "We should study together!"
E.) "This plush is so cute! Who is it...?"
F.) "Well, are you gonna join me in bed~"
G.) "Let's go get something to eat. I'm starving!"

I should ask about her stuff. That will make us better friends.
"This plush is so cute! Who is it...?" Somnis picks it up and looks at it.
"Oh, that's someone from a video game. It's called "Rift Between Worlds". He's the main character, 14. That bow he has shoots electrical arrows and he can use electrical attacks. It's pretty cool, but not as cool as-" She catches herself. "Not as cool as some other abilities I know about."
"Like what?"
"Oh, well, making barriers out of holograms and technological barriers is pretty cool."
"Wouldn't everything just pass through holographic barriers...?"
"You'd think so, but apparently not."
"Umm...well, this is a pretty cool room."
"Thanks?"
I need to come up with something else to say. I'm losing her attention!

She's got a game system here. A Yuu 2 system from Nontendo...
"Can we play some games?"
"Hm...? I didn't think you liked video games."
"I haven't played them much, but I know how."
"Sure. Choose a game and just put it in. I'll kick your butt at anything you want."
"We'll see." Somnis winks at Lisa and then goes over to the games, shuffling through them. "Hmm...this one! Superb Bash Brethren!" Somnis puts the disc into the system and grabs a remote, hopping onto Lisa's bed. Lisa starts up the game and picks to play as the blue hedgehog.
Oh, I know how to win this one! I just gotta use the red guy. Marty-o.
Somnis chooses to play as Marty-o and the two start the game. Within a matter of seconds, Somnis is smashed over the edge of the platform and knocked so far back that trying to get back on is hopeless. Then she's knocked up into the sky. And then she's hit by a spring, into a wall, and smashed off screen into the ground. "H-Hey! That's cheating!"
"No it's not, it's perfectly fair. If it was cheating, you wouldn't be able to do it."
"Fine, rematch!" Somnis pushes the start button, making the game start a rematch. Once the game starts, she unplugs Lisa's controller and throws her off the platform. "Ha! I win!"
"That's cheating!"
"It's not cheating if you can do it."
"That's not what I meant!" Somnis sticks her tongue out at Lisa.
"I win!"
"Alright, that's enough of this." She turns the game off. She then sighs and sits on her bed before being ambushed by Dogachu.
"Bark!" He licks her face multiple times.
"Blech! Dog slobber!" She picks up the happy Dogachu and plops him down in Somnis' lap. "This is yours. As much as I love having you here, get out. I have some work to do."
"Oh, you mean the school work? I can help!"
"Oh, you wanna help? Great! Here's what you can do. Go through that door, close it very carefully, and then go home."
Somnis sighs. "I guess there's nothing else I can really do." She carries Dogachu over to the door. "Bye..." Somnis sadly opens it and walks out while Dogachu gives Lisa puppy dog eyes.
Once she leaves, Lisa falls face first into her bed. "Ugghhhhh...now I feel bad."
Night
Somnis returns home with Dogachu in her arms. "Well, that was...not very fun. Why is it so hard to make friends, Dogachu? I tried everything!"
Dogachu tilts his head slightly and then whines.
"I guess you're right. I can't give up so easy. Otherwise I'll just never make it anywhere!" Somnis looks around. "Mom's still out working super late..." She takes out her phone. "No messages either. Hmm...Wasn't there something I was supposed to do tonight...?" She thinks to herself a moment. "Oh, yeah...that weird dream. Something about a graveyard at midnight. I guess if I wanted to go, now would be the time to go...but it was just a dream, so maybe not...?"

I can't just ignore this...I have this weird feeling like...something important is going to happen tonight. Something REALLY important. I have to go.
"But...it's not safe to go alone..." Somnis looks at Dogachu. "Wanna come with me?"
"Bark!" Dogachu gives her a determined look.
"You feel it too, don't you? Tonight something special is going to happen."
"Bark! Bark!"
"You said it! Let's go!" Somnis heads out with Dogachu, keeping him close by for protection. The two shortly reach the graveyard and wait there. "It's a little cold out here, isn't it...?" Dogachu snuggles up with Somnis. "...Thanks, Dogachu." The two sit there, waiting for midnight to come...
Midnight
"..." Somnis waits and hears a bell toll in the distance, signaling midnight.
A strange light begins to gather in the graveyard until one of the nearby graves has a swirling, purple portal in front of it. "...! I-It...!" Somnis stares in shock, unsure of what to say. Dogachu stands between Somnis and the portal, barking at it. Somnis runs up to grab her dog, but as she gets closer to the portal, it grows slightly and the area shakes, causing her to lose her balance. Somnis and Dogachu are both sent tumbling down through the mysterious portal...
Someone can be heard from behind her as she falls. "Hold on, I'm coming!"

Poison Bog
"AHHHHHHH!" Somnis screams as she drops out of the sky, passing by ominous, purple clouds. A large and bright moon shines in the sky and the area below is covered in a thick fog. Pools of thick, purple liquid are visible throughout. There are multiple, leafless trees around. As Somnis drops down toward the ground, holding Dogachu, she's suddenly caught by someone.
"You idiot! Didn't anyone tell you not to jump into unknown portals!?" Lisa carries Somnis in her arms while floating down carefully to the ground. She's surrounded in some kind of half transparent, blue armor. Underneath she's wearing simple clothes with a black and blue design. The blue in the clothes is glowing and the pattern reminds Somnis of some sort of science fiction armor. Lisa drops Somnis on the ground.
"Oof! Hey, that hurt! Wait, why are you here? What's going on!? WHERE ARE WE!?"
"Quiet! All your yelling could attract somethi-" As she says this, loud moans can be heard throughout the area. "Great. Zombies."
"What!? Zombies!? I don't like those!"
"Then shut up! They're following your screaming!"
"Well you yelling at me isn't helping either!" Somnis looks around, seeing multiple zombies have surrounded both her and Lisa. Dogachu whimpers.
"...There's too many for me to handle all on my own..." Lisa looks over at Somnis and Dogachu. "Here. You two use these!" She tosses two mysterious objects to both Somnis and Dogachu.
"Wait, but what is th-"
"Just USE IT. Unless you like being zombie food! Push the big, blue button!" Somnis looks at the mysterious object. It's like a giant key...
"Here goes nothing!" Somnis hits the button with one hand. Dogachu follows her lead and bites the blue button on his key.

Somnis suddenly gains long, beautiful robes that are pure white and glow amongst the dark fog. A Wooden Staff appears in her hand and she feels stronger somehow.
Dogachu grows in size, becoming larger than a normal dog and changing into a giant, adult wolf with black fur. His eyes change to become glowing red as well. Some metal armor pieces appear on him as well and his teeth grow to a large size and sharpen.
"So...how does this work...?"
"Just attack the zombies. It should come naturally to you. The Soul Key is a reflection of yourself, so it's easy to use."
"What does any of that mean!?"
"Just smack them with the stick!"

"Howl!" Dogachu releases a mighty howl and both Somnis and Lisa feel stronger and encouraged by Dogachu.
"I WILL SMITE YOUUUU!" Somnis' staff is surrounded in a bright light as she jumps up in the air and smashes it into the first zombie she sees. Using her special ability, Somnis smites the zombie and causes it to explode in a blast of light. "Whoa, that worked!?"
"I told you it would come to you naturally." Lisa floats in and punches one of the zombies out, defeating it. "One left."
"AHHHH!" Somnis runs in and smashes it with her staff, using the same smiting technique. "I did it!"
"Hm. Not bad." Lisa nods, feeling that Somnis did an adequate job. "Well, let's loot the bodies and get out of-" Lisa is interrupted by some strange, gurgling sound. A giant, sludge beast comes up out of the ground. Its vaguely dragon shaped and very large. The purple slime covers its body entirely, so its features can't really be seen. Its yellow, glowing eyes can be seen through the sludge. Two large, sludgy wings come up out of the swamp as well. "Every time. Why is there always a boss monster when it's least convenient? Alright, Somnis, get ready. This one's stronger than those zombies we fought before. Don't let it catch you off guard."
"Okay! I can do this!"
"Bark! Bark!" The menacing shadow wolf wags his big tail and lets out two happy barks.

"Alright, Holo Barrier, engage!" A semi transparent wall of blue light stands in front of the party, protecting them from enemy attacks.
"LIGHT BEEEEEEAAAAAAM!" Somnis launches a beam of light from the top of her staff at the Sludge Dragon, zapping its head. "Woo! It worked!" She jumps up and down excitedly.
"Grrr!" Dogachu leaps at one of the zombies and chomps down on it, tearing it apart. "Howl!" Dogachu steps back from the defeated zombie and gets behind the wall as the Sludge Dragon takes in a deep breath and then sprays out a sludgy blast of water at everyone. Luckily, the barrier protects from most of it and most damage is avoided along with any poisoning. The living zombie charges at Dogachu and bites him. Dogachu lets out a yelp and then starts to look visibly sick. He's injured from the poison transferred from the zombie's teeth.
"Your dog is poisoned! Give it this, quickly!" Lisa tosses a vial of some kind of liquid to Somnis.
Antidote was received!

Somnis jumps at the zombie and beats it multiple times with her staff. "DON'T. TOUCH. MY. DOG."
"Somnis!" Lisa yells at her. "It's dead."
Somnis looks back at the body before smacking it one more time. "PIKA!"
Dogachu holds the antidote with both paws, pulling the top off with his mouth before drinking it. He no longer looks sick. Lisa tosses a magnet bomb at the Sludge Dragon, causing a small explosion. The Sludge Dragon sweeps its goopy tail across the ground to attack, hitting Somnis, Lisa, and Dogachu.

Dogachu jumps at the Sludge Dragon and tears away at it with sharp fangs, creating an opening through the sludgy liquid. Somnis launches a beam at the exposed dragon and it appears more effective than usual. "Lisa! Hit the exposed point! It's more effective!"
"Look out!" Lisa creates a small holo wall around herself as a huge Sludge wave washes over the party. The holo barrier guards against most of it, but it still does some heavy damage. Somnis and Dogachu look to be weak and Lisa is decently damaged. "We have to end this quickly..." The holo barrier flickers out and shatters to pieces.

(Yeah, he's right. No real cooldowns. Your challenge is not to balance your SP, but to balance which skills you use when and knowing when to negotiate and fight an enemy.)
"Okay, let's do this!" Somnis gets ready as he weapon is surrounded in a bright light. Dogachu runs in front of her, leaping at the Sludge Dragon and tearing off more sludge and scales. Lisa follows by punching the Sludge Dragon as her fist is surrounded in a giant, holographic fist. "YAAAAAAAAH!" Somnis runs in, leaping at the Sludge Dragon, and smashes her weapon into it. The dragon explodes and sludge is sent flying everywhere.

"Alright! We did it!" Somnis jumps around excitedly while Lisa loots the bodies of the enemies. Dogachu celebrates with Somnis. "Dogachu, you got HUGE!"

Lisa comes walking in as she stores her stuff away in little hologram containers and zaps them away in her gloves. "That should contain those. Alright, Somnis, why were you here?"
"What? Why am I here? I just...I dunno. I just showed up at the wrong time I guess. I felt like something was calling to me."
Lisa sighs. "Well, now that you're here, I guess I'll be stuck with you. How exactly did you see the portals? Only specific people can see them. Those of us with some kind of...special ability. I don't know exactly what to call it."
"Uh...what? Hey, shouldn't I be the one asking questions? Just what exactly is going on here, huh? Why are YOU here?"
"Well, I guess I do owe you that explanation. Listen, I've been working on this for a while now. My latest project, you could call it. I stumbled across some sketchy company. Performing...experiments. I mean, it didn't look weird at first. But...then I followed some workers around and...they just poof! They disappeared! Then after that, I started seeing those portals around. I followed those workers there and they used this weird technology. So I stole one and somehow I managed to make my own. It was a lot of work. They call those Soul Keys. They help you survive in this world. Without it, that dragon would have eaten us whole."
"Hold on...this is a lot to process. So I'm living in a weird sort of movie or something?"
"Not really. This is definitely real. When we go through those portals, we end up in another world. I've been studying this world on my own quite a bit now. But I still have so much I don't understand."
"...?" Somnis clearly doesn't get any of this. Neither does Dogachu. Growling can be heard in the distance.
"...! Let's get out of here. I'll explain better another time. We gotta go before more zombies show up." The three leave the place, heading into a portal close to where Somnis fell out of the sky.

Somnis and Lisa return home with Dogachu. Actually, Somnis is over at Lisa's house. "Alright, Somnis. So I guess now I'm stuck with you on this. If that creepy organization catches you, they might do something to hurt you. So we're going to have to stick together. For both of our survival. Dogachu too."
"Right...how are we gonna stop them from knowing...?"
"It seems like as long as we avoid running into them, we should be okay. Just don't go around telling people about the other world. We have to keep this a secret."
"Alright..."
"So, any questions, Somnis? I'll answer what I can since we're pretty much...I guess, partners now."
Players may ask any questions they would like here and Lisa will answer to the best of her abilities.

"So does anyone else know about this other world or is it just you and me? Oh, and Dogachu too."
"As far as I know, it's just us. If anyone else knows about it, I'm sure they aren't talking about it. There is that rumor about the other world at the school though. So maybe someone does know about it. Whatever it is, I don't want US talking about it. Not outside of my room anyway. Those creeps might try something. I dunno. It's best we don't talk about it unless it's between us."
"Do you know someone named Solaria...? Some kind of flower lady with guards and stuff?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Do you know about Fox and why he was talking to Solaria?"
"Again, I don't know what you're talking about. I don't know either of those people."
"I just had a weird dream where those two were talking."
"Dreams are just dreams. I wouldn't look too much into it. Anything else?"
"Hmm...what's your favorite flower?"
"My what? What does this have to do with the other world?"
"Just answer it."
"Okay...? I guess I like blue flowers. Cherry blossoms are pretty cool too, but it's not like you can just grow those. They grow on trees. Alright, any more relevant questions?"
Players may ask more questions or ask to move on.

She rolls her eyes. "Sure."
"Yay! So, how much do you know about these Soul Keys?"
"They're tools to help you survive in the other world. They were made to help combat the monsters there. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but they only function in the other world. They have some power that makes your inner thoughts take a physical form. Something like that. It's um...think of it like an online avatar in a video game. It looks like how you want to look instead of what you actually look like. So these keys somehow reflect our thoughts and make them into weapons and armor we can use to fight for ourselves."
"Cool! It's like we're fighting with our imaginations!"
"You can think of it like that. There are apparently ways to use other world materials to create new armor too, but I haven't really collected enough for that."
"Oh, why did I get that robe and staff and why did my dog turn into a huge wolf monster?"
"It must have something to do with your inner self or some psychology stuff like that. I'm not that into that kind of stuff, so I have no idea. I work with machines, not people. You must have some kind of connection to shining, white robes and your dog must have a connection to giant wolf monsters."
"Hmm...Dogachu, what secrets are you hiding?"
"Bark!" Dogachu's tail wags.
Lisa shakes her head. "I don't think he can understand you. So, anything else?"
