You head to the exit and look around. There's no sign of any monsters in the immediate vicinity, but you hear more gunfire coming from inside the mall.
You leave.
Back into the thick fog.

While Karl continues to wait and listen to the gunfire - she sure has a lot of bullets.
A cat walks by, kind of. It looks like it's flat. Made of cardboard or something. A small humanoid is mounted on its back. The pair disappears back into the mist and seems to be heading into the mall. Weird.

While you continue to stand around, more of those cardboard-doodle-things come out of the mist. A three-headed dragon, a squirrel with a raccoon's head wearing a cowboy hat, a floating pizza with a knife stuck to one end spinning at VERY HIHG speeds. They all proceed into the mall, where you continue to hear intermittent gunfire, monster growling, and now the occasional paper ripping noises.

Karl blinks a good few times. This is the first time anything has surprised him in literal years. He drinks a bit of milk to see if he's just tripping on something or if the fabric of reality really is ripping in front of his eyes.

You continue to stand by and watch. Well, listen mostly. Because of the thick fog. No more paper things appear for a while, though you can hear the same sounds coming from inside. It's quite some time before another one arrives, this one looking like some kind of weasel, or a prairie dog, or... worse. It bounces along inside, followed shortly by a paper dragon.

You peek back inside the mall. It's a massacre. Shredded paper everywhere. Scraps of dead monsters. More gunfire deeper inside. You spot a monster trying to make it to the exit, only to be torn apart by a pair of paper creatures in the shape of large cats that you didn't even see slip inside. Even more monsters make their way towards the doors as the paper army continues to hold them back.
