It's not hard to trace your path back. Even though you're in pitch black, you can clearly see the stairs in the background. It's the only source of light around.
Tab heads back, with Katie taking point. He walks into the back room to find Sachi holding a knife. His white apron is stained with black splotches. A tray of fresh-baked brownies is beside him. "Oh, hello. I don't recognize you. But that's fine. I baked some extra brownies, if you want one."

Awkward heads for the stairs back up then, just focusing on getting out for now.
Tab gets startled by the knife. "N-No, I'm fine. Katie, you can have one if you want. I was wondering if you had any leads on who the mastermind of this is, or a possible escape route."

You manage to escape to the stairs. The whispering stops as soon as you enter the light.
"I'll take one!" Katie says. She's doing the hip-waggle again.
Sachi slices a tray of strange-colored brownies. "One of the... other participants is a dog-person, so I couldn't use any chocolate. I tried a new recipe that doesn't use it. I hope it's OK."
Tab asks about the mastermind or escape routes.
Sachi puts a hand on his chin. "I dunno. It hurts whenever we get close to one of those portals. As for a mastermind... I dunno. I guess the ones that are able to use the portal are suspicious. I think their names are... Jude and... Well, Raine's the other. But she wouldn't hurt a fly. Well, maybe a fly. With pesticides. But only if it were bothering her garden."

"...!.........Thank you for your help." Tab leaves the cafe with Katie.
Leaving the basement, Awkward spots Tab again, catching up with him. "We're going together. I need you to help check the basement later. For now, we're still exploring." The party leaves to check out the arcade now.

You head into the arcade. Plenty of cabinets to choose from.
Tia and that deer-girl have wandered in. Tia is 'playing' a lightgun game. She seems completely oblivious to the fact it's in eyecatch/demo mode. The deer girl is watching her nervously from several feet away.

Tab clears his throat. He's used to asking this by now. "Excuse me- I'm sorry to bother your... game, but do either of you have any leads on who's behind this evil operation? Or any ways we could escape from here besides the portals?"
Awkward scans about the arcade, looking to see if that 'Super Moeblob' game is around by any chance, or if this place has some sweet upgraded arcade edition of it.

The deer girl squeaks when Tab calls out to her. "Oh... N-no, sorry..."
Tia keeps 'firing' at the screen. "Nope! I haven't seen anyone acting suspicious. And I know this mall inside and out. All the secret passages I know about are blocked off. And the otherworld portals aren't opening, either!"
You manage to find an arcade edition of that game. Somehow, it looks like a downgraded version of the one near your base. With... entirely different characters. Ones that look way less real, 2D instead of 3D.

((No, this is the first mention of the cafe portal. I would have examined it later after exploring the mall anyways. Now I know.))

Everyone heads up to the fortune hut. You find the lights are dimmed. You can faintly hear Mareena's voice inside. "Now... Are you prepared? Once you do this, there's no going back..."
"Y-yes..." Raine answers faintly. "W-wait, you... remembered... to lock the door, r-right?"
"Of course. No one will interrupt us..."

Tab gasps in dismay. "That's...! W-We need to get in there, boss."
Awkward shrugs. "Whatever. You're doing the work though." Awkward creates a handheld battering ram and attaches it to Tab's scooter. Tab rides his scooter, ramming it into the hut's door.

Tab slams into the door once and the door shudders. He backs up and hits it again, barreling inside. You hear Raine shriek and Mareena's doves go crazy.
When you walk in, Raine is standing behind the table, tablecloth lifted to cover herself, blushing furiously. Mareena is leaning against the wall, laughing. She's dressed in Raine's sundress. Half of Mareena's outfit is sprawled out on the table.

Tab yells in shock, blushing heavily after realizing what he's intruded upon. "W-Why are you-?! U-Um, locking yourselves up alone is d-dangerous and... I-I-I'm sorry! I-I didn't mean to-" Tab starts stammering incomprehensibly as he backs up his scooter out of the hut in shame.
Awkward laughs at Tab. "Oh, you're real smooth, kid! But I guess they'll be fine. For now. We're exploring somewhere else now." Awkward and the party head back to the stairs to the basement, getting rid of the ram. When there, Tab uses his scooter's headlight to provide some light.

With the initial excitement gone, you have a chance to examine the room a bit more. There's an inactive portal.
You start to retreat, but Mareena dances over and snags Tab's ear. "Oh, no, you don't. You're not going anywhere until you fix my door!"
Raine crawls under the table with a whimper. She reaches up, feeling around and dragging the rest of outfit under with her.
"Is everyone OK up there!?" a voice calls from below. It's that girl with the red-tipped cane and sunglasses.

Awkward continues to laugh, then shouts back at the cane girl. "Yeah, everything's fine, my loser worker just broke a door and now he's getting the chewing out of a lifetime! We got multiple witnesses up here if anything goes south, so you all just relax."
Tab winces at the pain. "I-I'm sorry, okay? I just heard some suspicious talking from inside and thought that Rai- that someone might be in danger. I really don't have time to-"
"Actually, a door with a lock's important for this kind of situation." Awkward interjects with a smirk. "Wouldn't want to keep someone innocent unsafe at night, right, Tab?"
"B-But-"
"Then it's settled! You ought to help the girl fix her door, kid. While you're busy here doing that, I'll be taking your scooter. Katie, follow me. See ya!" Awkward frantically leaves with Katie and Tab's scooter to head towards the basement stairs.
"W-Wait!" Tab looks back at Mareena. "...Okay, I'll fix your door! Just let go of my ear already..."
