Awkward
You abandon Tab to his fate and go to the creepy basement.
You try shining the headlight into the darkness. The beam disappears like it's hitting a wall. You hear the whispering, quietly.
Katie growls.
The woman with the blue-and-black hair walks towards you, feeling her way with her cane.
Tab looks at the ruined door. It's... really smashed. Torn off one hinge, cracked, door jamb busted...
"Well?" Mareena asks. She hops up on her table and stares at Tab.
"P-please don't look under here..." Raine adds.

Awkward exclaims in confusion. "The hell?! This makes NO sense..." Awkward leaves, approaching the cane woman instead. "Do you know what's going on in that basement? I can't even get light to travel in there."
Tab examines the broken door, wanting to do anything but this at the moment. "Hmm... Well, it's... certainly, um, broken. Probably beyond my capabilities at repairing. Especially without any tools... What I believe you'll need is... a new door. Is... is there a door place around here...?"

"No light? That must be terribly inconvenient," the woman says. Her cane fails to find floor as she nears the edge of the stairs. She freezes, and starts groping for a railing. "Help me down these stairs and I'll check it out."
If you couldn't tell she was blind before...
"Door place?" Mareena scoffs. "Not a traditional door store, no. Nor a hardware store. If you can't fix it, perhaps you can improvise a replacement. So long as people can't see through, I can make do. Or you could just find someone who can fix it. Several of these people seem to have magic abilities."

"Hmm... the dark shouldn't affect you at all, I guess. Sure, I can help you down..." Awkward helps the woman down the stairs.
"Alright. If you could just allow me to leave and locate someone for help, I can get you your door back. Just, um..." Tab leans in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Please keep that girl safe. She's an... old friend." If there's no objections, Tab will see who's at the mall fountain currently.

Tab heads back to the fountain. The wolf-guy is still there. So are Mattea and pink twin-tails. And the black-haired woman who looks kinda like that one from that one game.
You help the woman down the stairs. She wanders into the darkness unperturbed. She comes back shortly. "This is... some kind of shadow magic. I can only imagine it's the work of a demon. We could probably get through it if we had some sort of talisman or ward. I know a few people who could help, but none of them are around here, and I can't exactly leave."

Tab speaks up. "Excuse me. Uh, could any of you... help fix a door for me?"
"What kind of... Ugh. Thanks, lady. I guess I'll do everything myself." Awkward takes out the Totem in his inventory and uses it on the basement's magic.

Awkward
You dispel the darkness. Inside you find... hands. Dozens upon dozens of hands. And teeth. Teeth everywhere. Fleshy... walls, eyes. Hundreds of eyes... You struggle to make sense of the creature you're looking at. It's as if the hallway itself is a monster. A piercing screech fills the air.
"What did you do!?" the blind woman asks.
Everyone looks around. "I got nothing," Mattea says. The black-haired young woman shrugs.
Pinky giggles. "Doesn't seem like you have much hope, huh?"
The wolf gives her a strange look, then turns back to Tab. "Do you... have a hammer and nails or something?"

Awkward groans. "Nothing you need to worry about, lady. But you'd better get out of here already." Awkward forcefully assists the woman back up the stairs, practically trying to haul her up.
Tab shakes his head. "Not currently, no... I need this door fixed, but I don't even have any tools to help. I wasn't prepared for this sort of predicament..."

"I see." The wolf man folds his arms and stares at Tab. "I don't think there's much I can do, then. I wonder if maybe someone here has some sort of magic that can help?"
You, like any sane person, decide to nope the fuck out of this situation as fast as you can. You drag the woman up the stairs with you. A dark mist begins to reform around the monster.
"It was a demon, wasn't it?" the woman asks once you're safe.

Tab sighs. "I have to hope for that as well. Thank you for your help, regardless." Tab decides to leave, checking the mall entrance for others.
"The place itself is a monster! A million eyes and hands everywhere. God, that was terrible..." Awkward composes himself after the ordeal. "Hey, do you know any ways to combat that atrocity?"

"Perhaps if we had a particularly powerful demon of our own, we could break through. One on the level of an elder god. Or a mage particularly experienced at dealing with demons. I have some experience, but I don't dare try to exorcise it myself without my partner, Mr. Armor, the woman says."
Katie whimpers. "D-do you want me... to fight it, Master? I-I'm... n-not... s-s-scared..."
Tab heads to the entrance. There are three people here. One is a bratty-looking guy with a bowler hat, playing with a pair of yo-yos. Another is a woman in a business suit, glaring at him. The last is a Pokemon trainer. He's carrying a whip and a pistol. He's staring at an inactive portal, ordering a Magnezone to, presumably, try to get it working.

"Let's just wait. We can't do anything about this for now," Awkward states. "Do you have any idea where this 'Mr. Armor' is? I could try finding him for you if he's missing."
Tab calls out to the three people. "Excuse me! Sorry for the trouble, but would any of you happen to have any experience repairing doors? Very, very horribly wrecked doors..."

Katie does her wagging motion again. "Oh, good. I mean, OK."
The woman folds her hands over her cane. "I wish I knew. I can sense when he's close, but he doesn't seem to be in this world. He's probably - no, he's definitely through a portal somewhere."
"I could improvise a wall for you?" the pokemon trainer offers. "...Or I could probably freeze it back together temporarily?"
The guy with the yo-yo continues to casually do a few tricks. "If you don't got no nails, what you need is some kinda glue. Prob'ly some in some store somewhere."

"I'll see if I run into him." Awkward leaves for now. Go with Katie to check the cafe.
Tab's expression lightens up, turning towards the trainer. "Oh, could you help me improvise a wall then? All I need is something vaguely door-like, to be honest."

Awkward
You go to the cafe with Katie. No Mr. Armor. Just Mattea, the rabbit-girl, and Sachi enjoying some of those faux-chocolate brownies. The creepy young woman with the black hair and the dress is standing near the entrance, looking in with a hint of... jealousy? Like she wants to join them, but can't work up the courage or something.
"Alright, let's go." You lead him up to Mareena's fortune hut. He looks at the damage, realizes what you wanted, and frowns. "Oh... Now I get it. Yeah, sorry. I could make a wall, but it won't open and close. It's not going to work for what you need, I don't think."
You peek inside the fortune hut and see Raine, now properly dressed in Mareena's outfit, sitting at the table. "W-welcome...!" she calls out. "T-to the, um... The S-stellar Raine's... fortune... place..."
