FE: The Legend Rewritten

Cinder's eyes flare up with an internal blaze as he recites the magic words from his tome. "Phoenix! I call upon you!" Three pillars of flame erupts around the enemy Berserker before converging together and transforming into a large, flaming Phoenix, incinerating the Berserker.

Critical Hit! Berserker receives 42 damage

Berserker was defeated!

Cinder reaches level 4! Cinder's Magic, Skill, Speed, Luck, and Defense increase by 1!

"...HUWAH!?" Cinder suddenly wakes up, breathing heavily. "Where am I!? Where'd that crazy mage go!? What's going on here!?" He looks up and notices Tsuki standing there.

"Oh, good. You're awake. I was wondering when you would do that."

Cinder glares at her. He then looks around the room. The guard captain from Oasis is here too. She's got a big, doofy looking smile on her face. And that short warlock boy from before is standing at Tsuki's side. He's staring right at Cinder with this weird, expressionless gaze. Sitting at a nearby table, impatiently tapping his foot, is Fjord. Looks like he got mixed up in this somehow too. "Where are we?"

Tsuki scoffs at Cinder's simple question. "We're at the Military Criminal Rehabilitation Base, obviously!"

"What does that even mean?"

Tsuki smiles and points to a map sitting behind her. There are various pins placed in the map and little notes everywhere. "This is where criminals are taken and transformed into useful people! It was Mother's idea. Truly genius." She sighs. "Anyhow, Mother has given me a mission to create my own Criminal Rehabilitation Team in order to prove I'm worthy of running the country. Consider this like my coronation exam."

"You still haven't explained what any of this is."

"Fine, fine. Settle down, you insect. Basically, we capture strong criminals and force them to kill and or capture other strong criminals. This is how we've managed to seriously cut down on crime in the past twenty or so years and it's proven to be incredibly effective."

Cinder sighs. "So you're enslaving us."

"Oh, not at all! This is completely different. I'm presenting you with options. Either become an upstanding citizen and help us take down other criminals or be publicly executed." Tsuki gives Cinder an evil smile.

"...You're not giving us much of a choice."

"Not really, no."

Fjord speaks to Cinder from the side. "Look, little thief. I don't like it either, but it seems like we're both stuck in this together. For now, let's just go along with it and we can kill them in their sleep later."

Tsuki laughs at that. "Oh, you won't be doing anything like that." She motions to Mars. "My little warlock friend here placed a special hex on you. If you guys even try to hurt us, then BAM! Criminal brains splattered everywhere! It's a little complicated and specific, but his mom is a prodigy mage. She's mastered every form of magic. I'm sure some of that must have rubbed off on him or something. Mars, you're so amazing!"

Mars moves his hat over his face again, like before.

Reyol looks impressed. "You've made him speechless with your compliment! Tsuki...! You're amazing...!"

"Oh, be quiet, you useless hunk of metal. Mars doesn't talk because he's shy. You and I both know that."

Cinder clears his throat. "Ahem. Hello. Over here. I think you're forgetting something important."

Tsuki turns back to Cinder. "Yes, yes. I didn't forget about you." She crosses her arms. "So what's it going to be? Are you going to join us as a CRT Member or would you prefer public execution?"

Cinder looks over at Fjord. He seems pretty calm. He must have already agreed. He then looks back at Tsuki. "...Fine. But I don't have to like it."

She smiles. "Good! We'll spend a day here and you two can get used to your new base of operations. Then tomorrow morning, we can set off on our first mission together."

Cinder sighs again. This is going to suck so much. But he just has to go along with it until he can find a way out...

Sitting quietly, by himself, Mars flips through the pages of an old tome. "Hey Mars, whatcha doin'?"

He looks up and sees Reyol standing behind him. He shows her the book.

"Oh, you're reading, huh?"

He nods.

"Hmm..." Reyol looks at Mars for a bit as he goes back to reading. "...You still don't talk much, huh? You're like the complete opposite of Mrs. Carthis."

Mars doesn't respond.

Reyol looks around, realizing this just got awkward. "...Maybe you should try something other than reading."

Mars shakes his head, still looking at the book.

"Come onnnn. Let's do something fun together! It will help you break out of your shell a little!"

Mars turns away from Reyol.

"Hey, don't treat me like that! Marrrrrsss..."

He continues to ignore her.

Reyol sighs. "I guess I'll just have to find some other way then..."

Tsuki opens the door to her room and finds Fjord standing there. "Oh, good, you came!"

He looks unamused. "What's this about?"

She walks over and points to a large box nearby. "Those things. Move 'em."

"...Seriously? You asked me over here so I could move a box?"

"Just do it, just do it!" Tsuki seems abnormally excited about this box moving.

Fjord sighs. "...Where?"

"Oh, uh...Just over to the corner. It's really heavy, so I'll tell you what to do from there." She lets out a small laugh to herself.

"...That's not weird at all." He turns to the box. "Whatever." He bends down, placing both hands on the sides as he lifts it up. "Eh? This isn't heavy at a-" As he starts to comment on the weight, the top of the box pops open suddenly and little Manakete streamers pop out, flying everywhere!

Tsuki giggles with delight. "I tricked you! Heehee! That wasn't a box I needed moved, it was a trap!"

Fjord has a very disinterested expression on his face. "...Really? That's the best you can do?"

"...Huh? What are you talking about? That was hilarious! I tricked you!"

"..." Fjord places the empty box down and walks out of the room.

"Wha-Hey! Where are you going!? Who's gonna clean up this mess you made?"

"Not my problem."

Tsuki's mood sours as Fjord disappears down the hall. "...Aww, boo. He's no fun. Maybe I just need to come up with a better trick..."

Tsuki finds herself outside, on a walk. She goes over the criminals she plans on apprehending in her head. It's best to find the most efficient way to-

"Why hello there, fair one." Cinder interrupts her thoughts.

"Oh? Hello, Cinder. Did you need something?"

"I just wanted to apologize for the way I acted yesterday. Say, now that I've had a chance to look at you, you're quite beautiful. Your gorgeous, red hair, your fiery eyes, and not to mention such perfect skin..."

"Flattery will get you nowhere," She says flatly. "But do go on." The edge of her mouth curls up in an almost smile.

Cinder smiles. "As much as I'd love to continue telling you all about your beautiful perfection, I'm...Well, I feel almost like a caged bird. I have an idea. How about the two of us run away from this place together. Just you and me. We can leave all these pesky responsibilities behind and truly grow as lovers."

"How about...no?" Tsuki grins. "I see the game you're playing. I'm not interested in setting you free at all."

"...Well, I figured it was at least worth a shot," Cinder admits.

"...Buuuuuut. You are right about one thing. Sometimes it can get kind of boring around here. So I have plans for you."

"...Plans? Like what?"

"We're going on a date together."

"Come again?"

"You said you loved me, didn't you?" She says this in a mocking tone. "Well, prove it. Entertain me with a date."

Cinder smiles. This might be his opportunity. "Right now?"

"No. Later." She abruptly ends the conversation. "I have work to do right now." She walks off without him.

Cinder watches Tsuki walk off in confusion. "...I just can't get a read on that girl. What exactly does she want...?"

Spirin jolts awake! He's sweating and breathing heavily. What a...horrible dream. What even was that...?

"Spirin! Come on, we have to get moving or we won't make it to the festival in time!" His brother, Klaus, could be heard outside his door.

Spirin slips out of bed, flapping his wings a bit and trying to straighten out his ruffled feathers. "Okay, I'll be out in a minute!" He hops to his feet and makes his way to an elaborate dresser, getting ready for the day.

His red wings were so ruffled. Ugh. That was an awful dream. He spends his time fixing his wings more than his hair and decides to throw on his typical outfit. Comfy, red shirt? Check. White pants? Got it. Black boots? Yep. He straightens out his long, leather gloves that go up to his elbow and places his sword in a sheathe at his hip. He then fastens a metal chestplate to himself and places on a couple of small pauldrons. There. Gotta make sure you're ready in case a battle breaks out, right? You can't be too safe.

"Come on! Hurry up, Spirin! Mom and Dad aren't here, so I'll definitely leave without you!"

"Alright, I'm coming. Calm down." Spirin ties a red cloak around his neck with a symbol on a roaring lion on the back before walking out the door.

Klaus stands there, impatiently waiting. His red ears and tail match the same red color of Spirin's wings. For whatever reason, his hair was always just naturally spiky. He never really fought against it. His clothes, however, match something his father would wear while Spiring dresses more like their mother. He's got red pants on with an elaborate scarf tied around the waist like a sash and a fuzzy, red bracelet on his arm. Aside from that, he doesn't wear a shirt or shoes. Yeah, definitely like his dad.

Spirin smiles, looking at Klaus. "Don't you think you should look a little more...royal, I guess? I mean, we are going to an official event."

"Pfft, who needs all that royal junk, anyway? Just show up in whatever you're comfortable in. Formal nonsense is just nonsense." His tail flicks around. "Hey, that's enough talking, okay? We're gonna be late."

Spirin follows as Klaus starts to run out. "Don't worry, we'll be okay. We still have another day until the festival."

"But it takes a day to get thereeee." Klaus makes his way out the door and pats one of the Laguz guards on the head on his way out. "Take good care of everything while we're gone, byeeeeeeee~"

Spirin politely bows to the guards. "I leave the palace in your hands for the time being." He then makes his way outside.

The two spend some time walking down the path and talking together. They excitedly mention all of the fun things they're going to do at the festival. Food, games, competitions. Not to mention they'll see all the other royals there too. It's been a little while. It'll be fun to see if they-

"Crap! We're surrounded!"



"Huh?" Spirin snaps out of it and looks around frantically.

"Over there!" Klaus points to two travelers that are a bit of a ways off the path.

One is a man with short blond hair with a strip dyed white. He wears what looks like a priest's robe fashioned into a style a brawler could fight in. It's cut at the waist to become more shirt-like and the sleeves are torn off. The hood's still there and the symbol of Lux on the back seems prominent. He's got a leather chestplate worn over the robe in an awkward way along with brown pants on. His hands have fingerless leather gauntlets on them and you notice what looks like some kind of Kitsune spirit tag in his hair, hanging partly in his face.

The other is a female crow Laguz. Her long, black wings seem so elegant. Her long hair matches her wings, but she has bright, blue eyes that contrast them. Unlike her friend, her cleric outfit seems mostly intact. She wears a beautiful, white and gold dress along with a white headdress. The symbol of Lux is on her front instead of her back as well and she carries a staff in her hands.

"Is that...Zyl and Kaguya?" Spirin recognizes them as other royal Laguz.

Kaguya, the cleric, steps back behind Zyl. "Eat him first, please."

He turns his head to shout at her behind him. "What the heck, Kaguya!?"

"This was your idea. If we didn't take your shortcut, there wouldn't be spiders everywhere."

"Hey, my shortcut got us where we were going, didn't it? And you can't talk to me like that! I'm a Kitsune Prince!"

"I'm your cousin. I can talk to you however I want. And you're not a real Kitsune. You're not even cute and fuzzy..."

Zyl gets annoyed at that comment. "I AM a Kitsune! I was raised just like them in their culture and I'm TOTALLY FIT TO BE PRINCE! DON'T BE BEORCIST, KAGUYA!"

The monsters nearby protest with a loud hiss.

"Oh, they look hungry..." Kaguya steps back. "Deal with it, Zyl."

"Come on, you can't just let me handle this on my own!" Zyl turns back toward the enemies and takes a fighting stance.

Spirin turns to Klaus. "We have to help them!"

Klaus' attention seems to be elsewhere. "Maybe we should help ourselves first..."

Spirin looks around and notices they've been surrounded by monsters as well. "...Well." Spirin takes out his sword. "I guess we'll just have to cut through them!"

Klaus toys with the enemy Doog, poking it with his claws and jumping just out of range before it can retaliate while Zyl and Kaguya decide what to do next.

Playthings activates! Mauthe Doog receives 5 damage

"Urgh...You're right." Zyl and Kaguya retreat back and Kaguya takes a moment to heal Zyl's wounds.

"Here, you can't be the prince of anything if you're dead..."

Zyl recovers 14 health

"That should do it..."

Zyl rubs his hand over the missing wound. "Wow, you're actually good at that."

"Of course I am. It's my job."

"I-I...guess you have a point there."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the forest, Spirin flies up around the abandoned fort, toward a Mogall. "I should take that thing out before it can attack us..." He quickly darts forward and lands a jab on the Mogall with his sword, but it's not enough to take it down! The Mogall retaliates by launching a sharp ring of darkness at Spirin. He quickly folds his wings in front of him and deflects the ring as best he can, but still gets injured in the process. "It's stronger than it looks..."

Mogall receives 6 damage

Spirin receives 3 damage

The Mogall quickly retreats, flying behind a wall of the fortress while launching another ring at Spirin. He blocks it in the same fashion, but his wings aren't going to be able to continually take hits like this...

Spirin receives 3 damage

The Mauthe Doog quickly runs in beside the Mogall and lunges at Spirin unexpectedly! Unable to dodge, he quickly kicks upward, knocking the Doog back before it can bite him and counters with a stab.

Mauthe Doog was defeated!

"That was close..." Spirin looks up and notices one of the Bael skittering along the side of the fortress. "Really...!?"

It extends a long claw and lands a weak stab on Spirin, just barely piercing his armor. He flies up to the Bael on the side of the wall and quickly slashes at one of the legs before flying back down.

Spirin receives 2 damage

Bael receives 3 damage

The remaining Bael makes its way over to Klaus and screeches at him. "Yeah, yeah, let's just get this over with." The Bael lunges forward and knocks Klaus off his feet, holding him to the ground as it pokes at him with its claws. He does his best to hold them back and manages to minimize the damage to only a couple scrapes before kicking the Bael off with his back legs and returning to all fours. He roars before pouncing on the Bael. He smacks it in the head with one claw before slamming the other down on its back, causing a loud cracking sound to echo throughout the area. Despite this, the Bael still seems to be alive and weakly moves around, trying to scratch back at Klaus. "These things just don't know when to give up..."

Klaus receives 2 damage

Bael receives 12 damage

The Bael on the fort skitters up and over the wall to eat leftover rations before it has to battle again.

Bael recovers 5 health

Zyl takes a small step back as he notices the enemy Bael crawling out of the forest toward him. "Stay behind me, Kaguya. I'll handle this!"

The weakened one strikes first, swinging a claw right into Zyl. This time, however, he blocks most of the damage with his leather gauntlets. "You can't beat me with the same old tricks!" He quickly ducks under the Bael's other claw and lands a powerful uppercut, tearing the head off of the Bael with the force of his punch.

Zyl receives 2 damage

Bael receives 5 damage

Bael was defeated!

Kaguya stares at the dead Bael with disgust. "...Gross." Another Bael then comes charging out of the forest with a loud screech. "Eep!"

Zyl jumps in the way as it swings at her, blocking the claws in a similar fashion to last time. He goes for another swing back at it, but the Bael quickly skitters away, hiding in the forest again.

Miss! Bael receives no damage

As it moves back, Zyl suddenly hears something moving toward him. He rolls to the side, evading a ring of dark magic from the other side of the forest. One of the trees falls down, cut by the ring, and reveals a Mogall floating there. "Great, there's more."

Kaguya taps Zyl on the shoulder. "What?" She points over to the Elder Bael moving around on the other side of the forest. "...Crap."

Zyl quickly makes his way around the enemies and behind them to strike at the Mogall. He jumps up and kicks it into the ground with destructive force.

Mogall was defeated!

Zyl reaches level 2! Zyl's Health, Strength, Speed, and Defense increase by 1!

"This should prove my worth as a prince!"

Klaus advances on the enemy Bael, swiping away at its claws before leaping at it directly and clawing its eyes. The Bael screeches before falling over on its side. "That takes care of that!"

Spirin moves closer to Zyl and Kaguya while the remaining spiders begin skittering around.

The Elder Bael moves in from the forests next to them and leaps out to strike at Zyl! He jumps to the side, evading the attack, before landing a solid punch on the Elder Bael.

The last Bael crawls up to Zyl and jumps him from behind. He gets a scratch from its claws, but grabs the Bael and swings it overhead into the ground before stomping on it. It quickly gets back to its feet and skitters backward, away from him.

"Alright, we're almost done." Zyl tells Kaguya this while breathing heavily. He seems to be getting tired from the attacks.
