Katie doubles over, then throws her head back and howls as fur bursts from her skin and she takes the form of a werewolf. She leaps on the leading bee-bear thing and starts to maul it. The creature bites her right back. Another stabs her with its stinger and she yelps. The last monster flies towards you as you unleash a burst of wind at the three of them. The winds knock them around, but don't seem to do too much damage. The creature dives through the wind to stab you, as well.
You feel sick... You think you've been poisoned.
Another of the monsters comes flying down from the hive and joins the fight.

You summon a small cloud over Katie. It starts raining, leaving her fur damper and her towel soaked. She lets out a soft, happy growl as she tears the beebear she'd been attacking in half and tosses its corpse to the ground. The one that stabbed her and the new one both bite into her shoulders from either side.
The one that swooped down to attack you continues attacking, but you manage to avoid its bite.
Two more of the things swoop down from the nest to join the fight.

Katie turns back and jumps onto the bee-thing attacking you, stomping on it and slashing away. You take the chance to raise your sword and stab down to finish it off.
One of the new ones stabs Katie in the back. The other tries to bite her, but she weaves out of the way with a growl. The two older ones both go after you. They both bite you. You actually feel some of the pain from it. You can hear a soft humming starting to come from your key. Now that Katie's closer, you can hear hers humming softly, as well.
The sound from the hive starts to intensify as the rest of the monsters start to become more and more agitate. Three more swoop down to join the fight.

Katie continues to slash away at the bugs closest to you as the three new ones dive down and stab her in the back. She manages to avoid one, but the others both hit. Another bites her arm, and she lets out a loud whine.
The other three all move to attack you. You manage to weave past one, then get stabbed twice. You call out another rain cloud that starts to heal you, but it can't keep up with the damage these bugs are dealing. It's barely enough to sooth the poison, much less the teeth and stingers. You suggest retreating, but Katie seems unwilling to leave with you still here. Which is a problem, because her key is letting out a loud, screeching whine. Yours is letting out a louder hum now, too.
"FLOYD!" you hear Freya yelling from back the way you came. "WHERE ARE YOU!?
"KATIE-BEAST!" Natsumi calls as well.
Three more monsters join the fight. It's now 10-to-2, with no apparent end to the monsters in sight.

Floyd grimaces chance of victory clearly null "OK I'm calling it tactical retreat!" He shouts summoning his mount of winds to help in the retreat and heading off in the direction of the voices

You decide to retreat for now. You can hear Katie running right behind you. You jump out through the same entrance you ran into the tree trunk from and run straight into a short lady wearing a red-and-white fox-like mask, purple undershirt, white shirt, and blue... thing that looks like a bastardization of pants and a dress. A black cat is riding on her shoulders. Another woman is standing behind her, wearing a red-and-gold soccer uniform, shin guards, and a large hockey mask. She's dribbling a soccer ball as she runs over to you.
"FLOYD-PERSON!"
"Katie! What are- oh, snap! Check out those bee things!"
Sure enough, the ten you were fighting are flying up right behind you. It looks like they aren't ready to just let you escape.
The lady in the fox mask takes a quick look at you, then pulls out a stick with a white ribbon on the end. "You two run, we'll handle this!"
"I don't know how to-"
"Just do what comes naturally! And try to stay behind me, I know just how to handle these!"
Your key is still humming loudly. Katie's is even louder. She continues to run, outpacing you and sprinting for the portal.

Floyd seems apprehensive as he continues his retreat to the portal "You're going to fight all of them? Well you have been here longer...." he says he stops when he reaches the portal and snaps a Refreshing Raines on Freya before exiting

You cast a spell and retreat through the portal as the fox-mask-lady starts yelling in some foreign devil-language.
Move to Park.

You arrive at the portal well ahead of the scheduled time, of course, after telling Katie and Fox where to meet you and reminding Tia. Katie shows up a few minutes before, and Fox just before the portal's due to open. After a brief investigation, you find Tia wandering around the park trying to find exactly where you're meeting just in time.
The portal opens, and you step in to find almost the same scene as before: a wide-open plain broken by one giant, imposing tree. Missing is the giant flock of giant, angry birds - a few are still flying around the branches, but they aren't assembled near the entrance en masse like before.
Fox and Katie are quick to take out their Soul Keys and transform, running ahead excitedly. Tia takes out her Soul Key and examines it, seemingly unsure whether to use it.
"Come on, let's go!" Katie yells back. She starts to run forward, then stops. "Oh, wait. Do you wanna go in through the front door? 'cause I know a shortcut up to about, um... halfway? Oh, right! I was s'pposed to tell you about that. Wait, no, I was s'pposed to not tell you about that, and also tell you not to tell anyone else about this tree place!" She pauses and looks at Tia. "Oops."
