You swing your sword into Goombario, as he's suddenly launched into the air, until you stop seeing him.
"GAME!"
A portal opens with a "Stage 2" signpost. There is also some kind of stand appearing. M is inside.
M: "Come see me if you wish to change equipment! To continue, jump in the portal."

(I'll assume you move forward.)
---STAGE 2: VS GOOMBELLA---
You appear in some kind of town... A sign reads "Rogueport". You're in some kind of central plaza. There's a Inn and a shop, which are seemingly locked. There's also a back alley. Your opponent is a pink Goomba with a miner's helmet, a red tie and a blond pony tail.
Goombella: "I hink it's time I train you to battle!"
M: "3...
2...
1...
GO!"

Blazing Wolf, then point my sword up when she attacks.

You take the Blazing Wolf stance, then puts your sword in the air. Goombella opens her book and some kind of energy comes out of you to create a stamp in it. A health bar appears above you.
Goombella: "Hmm... I see... You're not particularly powerful are you?"
Goombella keeps her distance.

Take a look at my health bar since I'm curious to see how much damage I took, then go in for a lunge. If she jumps, swing my sword upwards and prepare to counter her headbonk.

You didn't lose any HP yet.
You go in for a lunge, baiting Goombella into a headbonk. You strike upwards to counter her attack and she's bumped backwards.
Goombella: "Ugh! Like I don't have tricks myself!"

Keep pressing forwards with my attack, then backstep out of the way.

Goombella winks in a random direction. An audience appears and send some kind of stars inside her. While she does that, you're able to attack her.
Goombella: "Okay, my turn."

Oh dear, she's appealing to the audience. I haven't played TTYD, but from what I know that could be bad. Forget going on the offensive, focus entirely on dodging or countering this turn.

You brace yourself for an attack, as a rain of book occurs. You run everywhere in order to dodge it. A small amount hit you. You might have lost 1/5 of your health.
Goombella: "Maybe I shouldn't have talked..."

You charge Goombella to attack. She throws her book at you, doing minor damage. It stills give her the opportunity to dodge.
You're now between the book on the ground and Goombella.
