You head to the mall. There's a pretty good crowd tonight.
Some rocker-looking guy's hanging out at a pet adoption kiosk.
A white-haired guy is sitting on the edge of the fountain, messing with his phone.
A blonde-haired girl is standing in front of the discount movie theater, trying to pick a movie.
A red-haired kid is looking at her from across the mall.
And Mattea, the new student body president, is waiting tables in a cafe.

You take a seat in the cafe. The red-haired waitress in the doofy uniform makes her way over to you, stumbling over her own two feet twice along the way. "Hello, darling! What can I get for you tonight?" she asks in a fake, sugary-sweet voice.

Arcadia laughs a little at the situation. "Real committed to your job, aren't you? I respect it, making ends meet and all that. Anyways, you don't look like you remember this, but I'm Arcadia, that girl you called a truant from earlier today, which is totally true, and I saw you working your tail off and just had to come say hi. Just moved here and still don't know anyone, so I wanted to start with one of the first people I met! Especially when you already caught me at my worst... Ooh, but first, come back with a cup of joe, would you? I'll make it worth your while!"

Arcadia takes a quick sip of her coffee. Damn, it's good. "Damn, it's good. Hey, wait up. Your name is... Mattea, right? The new senior class president? Y'know, that's pretty impressive. Competition couldn't have been easy to beat. Think you'll handle it alright? I'm stuck in the class below yours, but I still hope it'll go well for you and all that."

Arcadia sighs at the response. A heavy loss suffered today. "Fine. I'll let you go for now. Just don't forget me, y'hear? Thanks for the joe 'n all!" Arcadia pays for her coffee and leaves Mattea a fat tip, then heads back home.

The girl - Viola - doesn't break her pace until she reaches the arcade. She lets out an unsteady breath and heads in.
...
She looks around for a bit, deciding what to play. She takes the hood off. She's not ugly or anything, but she's not as cute as Jimmy implied, either.
She settles on a two-player lightgun game. She takes out a roll of quarters, sticks one in, and starts playing by herself. Even though it's clearly designed for two players, she's holding her own pretty well. Really well. She's holding the gun as far as the cord will reach and calmly squeezing off headshots while posing in a weird stance.
"This is... not what I expected..." Jimmy admits.

"Hm. Well, looks like she's into video games then. Now, as good as you are taking shots with a camera, you think you're any good with the gun?" Tai looks at him. He's not particularly good himself.
"Well, either way, I'll go first. I'll probably be shit, but I can introduce us."
With that Tai makes his way to the other gun and puts in some quarters.
He takes aim and does his best." Hey, you got any tips? I kinda suck at this."

The girl looks at you in stunned silence, shock and fear plastered across her face - for about half a second, when an enemy in the game hits her. She reflexively snaps back to focusing on the game, popping every enemy on screen with a special attack. "Sh-shoot them..."
Tai's not terrible at the game, he's able to hit most enemies... 's corpses as they die after Viola shoots them in the head. He'd be taking a few hits if his partner weren't blowing everything away so... mechanically. Appear, pop, appear, pop...
Tai keeps expecting her to relax a bit, but she doesn't. She doesn't seem comfortable with Tai's presence. At all.

(You'd think Tai having used actual magical guns before would help his aim. Then again he does have some low proficiency.)
Tai tries harder, really focussing. He notices she seems pretty uncomfortable. Not his type, but he can work with it.
"Hey, don't worry about me. Let's flcus on the game alright? Pretend I'm not here. It's just the game."
Tai gives Jimmy a quick glance and nods for him to come closer and watch them as they play. To get a feel for when it's his turn.

She gets even tenser at your words. She's entirely focused on the game, though you still get the impression she's ready to bolt like a baby deer at the slightest provocation. Actually, baby deer seems like a pretty good description for her appearance. Awkwardly long legs, timid expression, big eyes, kind of long ears...
You keep waiting for a chance to tag out with Jimmy, but... Even when you start trying to die, your partner keeps saving you. And you're plowing through at quite a rate. You reach the end out of nowhere. She hurriedly shoots her initials into the high score screen - VIC - and you see she has all top 5 scores.
"G-good game..." she mumbles before hastily retreating. She ducks down another row and starts up some competitive fighting game.
