Main Hall

Cantrelle eagerly makes her way to the board, writing down Spark and Summon Flutterlight as her spells of choice.

"Hmm... Knock can definitely distract or redirect wildlife... The other 3 could all be used as a light source, Flash probably being the least efficient, but I am here to learn from Mage Knights after all..."

Ray will thank the headmistress and teachers, then picks Knock and Flash."

Misha

"Oh, no, you've already done more than enough," Erin assures you.  "I brought some savings, and I noticed a few stores on the way into town.  I shouldn't have any trouble."


Indy

The beastman growls softly.  Not aggressively, it almost sounds like clearing his throat.  "Perhaps so.  But neither would work so well in my home.  And I hope to be assigned in the region later.  It would be more prudent for myself to choose the others, I think..."  He pauses.  "I do not believe flirting with your professor is the wisest course of action."


Everyone

The others take their turns to write on the board.

Alice is quick to jump up and scribble Spark and Flash.  "Nice and flashy!"  She giggles and hops back.  "Haha, flashy."

The guy in black bumps her as she steps back.  "Ugh.  Watch where you're going."

"Oof.  Sorry!"

He looks Alice up and down, then shrugs.  "It's fine."  He adds Summon Flutterlight and Flash next to Balthazar.

The harpy jumps down from her perch, spreads her arms, and glides past some of the others.  The beastman had eagerly stepped forward, but quickly shifts out of the way.  The harpy gives him a dirty look, then writes Flash and Spark next to the name Gwen.

The beastman picks up the chalk and immediately writes out Flash beside Hero, then pauses to think for a moment before adding Summon Flutterlight.

Fenian and Erin both reach for the chalk at the same time and Erin quickly withdraws her hand when she notices.

Fenian picks up the chalk and offers it to her.  "Here, write."

Erin shakes her head.  "No, go ahead."

Fenian pushes the chalk at her.  "No, no.  You-"

A flash of annoyance washes over Erin's face and a snarl reveals sharp fangs.  She snatches the chalk and quickly snaps it in half.  The smile is already back to her face as she offers part back, as if it never left.  The two fill in their choices together.  Erin chooses Spark and Flash, while Fenian picks Summon Flutterlight and Knock.

The remaining three are in no rush to fight over the board.  Colette is first, walking up as if gliding, and calmly adding Knock and Summon Flutterlight.  She looks at it again, nods, and returns to her seat.

Darius looks at the last girl, and when she sees no sign of jumping up, proceeds to the board.  He rubs his chin for a moment, taps the chalk to the board a few times, then writes out Flash and Knock.

Blue-hair carries her sandals in one hand, walks up with a slight stagger as if drunk, and clumsily takes up the chalk.  Her letters are sloppy and hard to read, but you think they say Spark and Knock.

Hartmann looks over the results and starts writing it out on a piece of paper.  "Very well.  You're free to explore the town, mountain, or school until morning.  Sunset is early around here this time of year, so dinner will be two hours after.  Room assignments will be posted on this board after.  If anyone wishes to quit in private, my office is to the right of the hall, though a tunnel, down the stairs, and at the second torchlight.  You're all dismissed."

You won't have terribly long to explore if you want to be back for dinner.  But it might be a good chance to see what sorts of things are in town, look around school, or get to know one of your fellow students, or a professor.

Racheal whistles to herself and looks around at the ensuing chaos and fight over the chalk.

Racheal will hang back and take a look around the school. If this is where she will be for a while can't hurt to get use to her surroundings.

Ray justs run off excitedly and in a hurry to explore the town, his notebook ready to not his observations.

"Hey! Maybe I will eventually learn a spell for my notebook to fill itself!"

Misha

"No really there's no need to trouble yourself unless you wanted to go see the town yourself... or you had some ulterior motive?"

Misha would just shrug. "Not unless you count trying to be nice and make friends as an ulterior motive. I suppose it could be counted as that."

Erin narrows her eyes for a moment, then smiles.  "Alright then.  The Elder told me to be cautious about this sort of thing, but you seem fine.  You're welcome to come along."

Move to Valorwind


Racheal

You decide it would be for the best to get an idea of what the school looks like.  You spend some time wandering around among the caverns, stairs, and caves lit by floating orbs of light.  The school seems to split into three wings around the main hall, with a few other smaller rooms in this central plaza, as well as the entrance to the cafeteria.  To the east you find a few locked doors, some of which have windows you can see through.  Some look like the main hall, but smaller.  Probably the classrooms and professors' offices.

Over to the west, you find winding set of hallways that break up into a collection of rooms.  The beds you notice inside make you think these are the bedrooms.

When you head down towards Hartmann's office, you look past it to find a large, circular room with stadium seating around it.  Like some kind of ancient gladiatorial arena.  You have no idea what this could be, and neither does Hero the beastman.  He stands on the edge, looking unsure whether to jump down.  His ears perk up and he turns as you approach.  "Ah...  Good evening, Miss... Rachael, was it?"  He looks back.  "I was just wondering what the purpose of this chamber could be."


Selfless

You head into the cafeteria hours ahead of time.  And you aren't the only one.  Colette also seems uninterested in exploring or making friends.  The cafeteria is made of a large area with a collection of seats and tables carved from the stone, nothing unexpected.  A small kitchen area is separated from the rest by what looks like a bar.  Some kind of buffet or something.

Two people are working in the back, a young man and an older woman.  The two are hard at work, moving between pots and pans and cutting boards and an oven and a refrigerator like a whirlwind.  The few words they exchange with each other seem to be some kind of code they've developed between each other, because it certainly isn't a language you've ever heard.

When they notice you and Colette enter, the older woman pauses.  "You are early!  Very early.  You- oh.  Ah.  You."  She looks to Colette.  "Yes, yes.  Come in, take a seat."  Then she turns to you.  "And why are you here so early?  Go.  Have fun, enjoy your youth."

You, along with most of the other students, head towards town.
