Maya walks around, limping.
Bandit B: "The shadow is actually here? I thought it was only in Water Land...
Bart, you should go report this to Megan."
The bandit who petted Crystalis and Maya stands up, grabs some stuff and walks away on the path.
Barthelemew: "Alright then I'm leaving."
Bandit B: "I'll stay here and make sure I report to the camp is something significant happens."
Barthelemew runs away.
Bandit B: "So... If you guys follow behind Bart, I'd suggest avoiding our camp. We don't play well with strangers.
One of our commander is supposed to have ambushed Shepperd... I don't think she'll take it lightly if you get in her way."

I don't remember seeing a merchant anywhere. Crystalis certainly didn't.
Yeah, I just looked and Crystalis never saw a merchant tied up anywhere.

Elliot seems on the brink of fighting.

Crystalis taps Elliot with his tail to let him know he's got this. Crystalis also walks over to look at the merchant a little before having a shocked and scared expression, crouching low and backing up before writing.
"He might be infected with shadows. I've seen that look before. You need to release him and get him out of here right now. If that body stays around here, he will turn into another Shadow Tentacle! You can't kill him either or the tentacle will just release faster. Set him free and make him run far, FAR away from here or we'll all be doomed!"
